Prologue

“It has to be this way.” The sun glinted off the sword as it swung in an arc. “I’m sorry…” He never heard the whispered apology; his mind was already on her. He would be with her again, and his heart would be whole. He closed his eyes against the strong wind, leaving them open a crack to imprint the landscape into his memory.
